Looking for some solid striper action without burning your whole day? Captain Timothy Mueller's got you covered with this four-hour afternoon charter that hits the sweet spot between Sandy Hook Bay and the Atlantic. This isn't your typical crowded party boat deal – you're getting a private vessel for up to six people, which means more room to fish and way better odds of actually catching something. Tim's been working these waters for years, and he knows exactly where the bass like to hang out when that late afternoon bite kicks in. Plus, he'll clean your catch so you can head home with fillets ready for the grill.
This half-day trip runs during prime late-afternoon hours when stripers start getting active as the sun begins its descent. You'll be fishing the productive waters of the New Jersey Bight, where the bay meets the ocean and creates perfect feeding conditions for bass. The boat can handle up to six anglers comfortably, making it ideal for family trips, buddy groups, or anyone who wants to avoid the elbow-to-elbow experience you get on bigger boats. Captain Tim keeps things relaxed but focused – he's there to put fish in the boat, not just burn fuel. Whether you're a complete beginner who's never held a rod or a weekend warrior looking to add some variety to your fishing routine, this trip works for everyone. All your tackle and bait are included, so you can travel light and let the captain handle the gear selection based on what's working that day.
Captain Mueller doesn't mess around when it comes to technique – he's got a whole arsenal of methods depending on what the fish are telling him. You might be working mojos and flutter spoons if the bass are suspended and feeding aggressively, or switching to swim shads when they're hugging structure. When conditions call for it, he'll break out live bait – nothing beats a fresh bunker or eel when stripers are being picky. The beauty of fishing with an experienced captain is that he reads the water and adjusts tactics on the fly. One minute you might be casting into breaking fish, the next you're drifting over a promising piece of bottom structure. All the tackle is professional-grade stuff that can handle whatever swims in these waters, from schoolie bass to true trophy fish. Tim provides everything from rods and reels to terminal tackle, so your only job is to learn the techniques and enjoy the fight when you hook up.
"Captain Tim worked very hard to put us on Stripers even though the bite was slow today! Great experience!" - Jerry. "I booked this trip for my dad as a birthday present and it did NOT disappoint! The captain and crew were so friendly and knowledgable. We caught so many fish and had an amazing trip. We've been on many trips togeher but this was by far our best yet! Will be back!" - Brittany. "Captain Tim worked hard to find the fish on a tough weekend. He traversed the bay and found them, putting fish on the boat for us. Tim and his mate know the waters well, and I would highly recommend them because they care about giving you a successful day and a one-of-a-kind experience." - Matthew.
Striped bass are the bread and butter of New Jersey inshore fishing, and for good reason – these fish fight hard, grow big, and taste fantastic on the dinner table. Around Sandy Hook, you're looking at fish ranging from schoolie-sized 18-inchers all the way up to true cows pushing 40 pounds or more. The late afternoon timing of this charter hits right when stripers start their evening feed, moving up from deeper water to chase baitfish in the shallows. These fish are incredibly structure-oriented, so you'll often find them around jetties, drop-offs, and areas where the current creates natural feeding lanes. What makes stripers so exciting to target is their aggressive nature when they're feeding – when you find a school, the action can be absolutely wild with fish breaking the surface and multiple hookups happening simultaneously. They're also one of the smartest gamefish in these waters, which means Captain Tim has to constantly adapt his approach based on tide, wind, and what the bass are eating that particular day. The hybrid stripers in this area are especially fun to catch because they tend to school up tight and fight with serious attitude for their size.
Sandy Hook Charters delivers exactly what serious anglers want – productive fishing time with a captain who knows how to find fish and put you on them consistently. This four-hour window gives you enough time to really get into the groove without feeling rushed, and the late afternoon departure means you can sleep in and still make it out for prime fishing. With all tackle, bait, and cleaning services included, you're getting excellent value for a private charter experience. Captain Tim's track record speaks for itself – even on tough days when fish are finicky, he puts in the work to make sure you go home with bent rods and good stories. The six-person limit keeps things comfortable and gives everyone plenty of opportunities to get their lines wet. Whether you're planning a birthday celebration, father-son trip, or just want to get away from the dock fishing crowds, this charter hits all the right notes for a solid day on the water targeting New Jersey's premier gamefish.

Stripers are the backbone of our Sandy Hook fishery - these silver-sided bruisers with their signature black stripes can reach 20-40 pounds and put up serious fights. They're structure fish, so we find them around drop-offs, jetties, and sandy bottom transitions in 15-50 feet of water. Fall through early winter is prime time here as they feed heavily during their southern migration. What makes them special? They hit hard, fight dirty, and taste amazing on the table. The key at Sandy Hook is working the rips during moving water - stripers ambush baitfish in the current breaks. Whether we're throwing live bunker or working artificials like spoons and shads, these fish demand respect and reward patience with memorable battles.
